EYEVAN launches its
HISTORIC COLLECTION.

EYEVAN, the eyewear brand, will launch its new HISTORIC COLLECTION. EYEVAN is Japan's first fashion eyewear brand, founded in 1972 with the concept of "Eyewear for Dressing as a Fashion Accessory."
For over 50 years, we have been producing high-quality Japanese-made eyewear.
The "HISTORIC COLLECTION" is a collection that starts with EYEVAN's early models and reconstructs them using modern Sabae technology, remaining as faithful as possible to the designs, materials, and manufacturing methods of the time.
It is also an attempt to reexamine the origins of the EYEVAN brand from a modern perspective.

PRODUCTS

From among the EYEVAN models created in the early days of the brand, we selected designs that symbolize the brand and strived to be as faithful as possible to the details of the time. Existing documents and actual frames were carefully examined to recreate the unique appearance of eyewear from the past down to the smallest detail.

The colors available are primarily those that were available at the time. Due to differences in production background, there were many tortoiseshell patterns with subtle variations in nuance that are now discontinued. As it is difficult to reproduce such materials in current products, this collection has been reproduced in cooperation with acetate material manufacturers from that time.

We have also faithfully reproduced the atmosphere of the time with the plating used on the metal frames, particularly the antique plating. The unique black texture has long been restricted for use due to its adverse effects on the human body and high defect rate, but modern Japanese technology has ensured high durability while minimizing its adverse effects on the human body. We have completed an antique plating that faithfully reproduces the texture of the time.

"EYEVAN has a starting point that we can return to."

Since its establishment in 1972, EYEVAN has made great strides as a brand that combines fashion and functionality, inspired by the vintage eyewear collected by its founder from all over the world.
The high-quality products produced by eyeglass artisans in Sabae, Fukui Prefecture, began to attract worldwide attention in the mid-1980s, and EYEVAN Inc. eventually became an OEM supplier to numerous overseas brands.
When EYEVAN was founded, the global eyewear market was dominated by European manufacturers, and Japanese-made eyewear was still unknown.
However, EYEVAN eyewear, which is based on beautiful handmade vintage eyewear produced around the world and combines the aesthetic sense of artisans with the high quality of industrial products, presents new value in Japanese-made eyewear and spreads its appeal to the world.
The reputation and trust built in this way has been passed down continuously to the present day.
EYEVAN's pioneering spirit, which has created new values and even changed the trends of the times, has been passed down to the current design team.
In today's world where trends and values are constantly being updated and consumed, the eyewear created by the original design team is a "origin" to which we can return.
The "HISTORIC COLLECTION" is a self-homage collection that takes a fresh look at EYEVAN's history and pays utmost respect to our predecessors.

The Ivy Leaguers series, released in 1977, responded to the youth fashion scene of the time by aggressively promoting oversized frames. Its fresh style quickly gained support and became an explosive hit.
Among these, this model was named "Boston type" by founder Tetsuji Yamamoto, and it became the catalyst for the term "Boston shape" and its design to become established in Japan. It is a starting point when talking about the brand's history.
The hinges on the front have a simple structure without any rivet decoration. The soldered hinges, which are the same shape as those used at the time, are a robust structure with excellent strength, but are no longer used today due to technological advances. We found the last remaining parts that had been stored for a long time and reassembled them while maintaining the original design and structure, carrying on the design philosophy to the present day.

In the early 1980s, EYEVAN launched the Combination Series, redefining the relationship between the different materials of Plastic and metal. The series, showcasing a hybrid, urban design, was born in response to the changes in fashion and lifestyle of the time. The bold Plastic-brow lines, in particular, combine decorative strength with structural rationality, succinctly reflecting the spirit of the times.
COM-808 is one of the models that symbolizes the philosophy of EYEVAN, which specializes in combination frames. It faithfully reflects the design intent of the time, down to the finest details, such as the overall sizing balance and the matte finish on the stepped part of the bridge. The tension and harmony created by combining different materials shows that this series is not just a design proposal, but an accumulation of EYEVAN's technology and aesthetic sense.

In 1972, EYEVAN presented a different value to the black metal frames that were the standard for eyeglasses used in a business scene at the time through its Manhattan Series. This series, which offered the lightness and intelligence of metal frames as an alternative to the weight and dignity of eyewear, was also an attempt to quietly reexamine the nature of eyewear.
The MA-109 is one model that succinctly embodies this philosophy. The EV logo plate, placed only on the left temple, is assembled using the same handcrafted process as back then. The design of the brand logo on only one side subdues its visual impact, while also demonstrating a strong sense of pride in the product itself and trust in its quality.

The EYEVAN CRAFT Daddy Series, released in 1985, was the first series to feature dragon-shaped temples.
This expression, which combined decorativeness and structure, later influenced overseas brands and remains popular to this day.
The DD-21 is one of the models with this iconic design. Its bridge design, designed to complement the presence of the temples, is also distinctive, and has been repeatedly referenced as an important design inspiration for subsequent in-house products. The lens shape is designed to have a little bit off- balanced look in contrast to the highly aesthetic details, and this design philosophy has been passed down to the current design team.

VISUAL IMAGES

The new visuals created for the "HISTORIC COLLECTION" visually express the history of EYEVAN and the respect for its predecessors who have been involved in its manufacturing.
In the mid-1980s, an American brand for which EYEVAN was doing OEM production at the time produced an advertising visual was full of humor and flair, depicting a group of dwarfs working together to make eyeglasses.
The clarity that instantly conveys it as eyewear advertising, the strong commitment to craftsmanship, and the high graphic quality remain timeless.
It stands as one of the iconic advertisements that led to the brand’s subsequent global growth.
The visuals for this “HISTORIC COLLECTION” have message that also conveys our utmost respect and gratitude to the founders of the American brand, who have built a partnership with EYEVAN's original design team over many years, fostering a family-like relationship that transcends borders.
